I've been going to Kennywood for quite a while. Since I have visited a lot, I feel like I can give some good advice on how to make the most of your visit. Now, let's go over some tips.
Tip 1: Go to Exterminator First
Exterminator is the lowest capacity coaster in the park and it is a fan favorite. If you combine that with the Air Conditioning and Hot Summers, the ride gets some very long lines later in the day.
Tip 2: Don't Get Fries from Potato Patch
A lot of people love Potato Patch Fries. While I am not a big fan of them, I understand that many people love them. The lines end up getting super long. I know people who have waited longer in the Potato Patch lines than they would have in line for Phantom's Revenge. There is one more place to get Patch Fries, though: Small Fry. They serve the same things that Potato Patch serves, but they also have Gluten Free Chicken Tenders. The lines can still be long, but not nearly as long.
Tip 3: Think About Getting a Pass
If you plan on going with multiple people, staying multiple days, and/or visiting one of Pennsylvania's other Palace Entertainment parks (Sandcastle Water Park, Idlewild, and Dutch Wonderland), you should 100% get a Premium Pass. A Daily Ticket is $60 in 2021 and a Premium Pass is $110 (online price). The Premium Pass gets you unlimited Summer admission to Kennywood, and this doesn't include Blockout Dates. You also get 25% off Admission to Idlewild, Sandcastle, and Dutch Wonderland. You also can get 20% off Food and Retail, and with meals being about $10 to $15, it can save you around $5 every visit for meals. There is even a free Souvenir Cup with it, which can save you up to $10.
You also might want to get the Palace Entertainment Platinum Pass if you plan on spending multiple days at multiple Palace Entertainment parks. This also comes with free drinks, if you are interested in Drinks.
Tip 4: Consider Getting a Hotel in the Waterfront
The Waterfront is right near Kennywood, and there are 3 hotels down there. Also, if you are interested in going to Sandcastle, it is behind the Costco in the Waterfront, and there is a hotel right by the Costco Gas Station.
Tip 5: Consider Getting a VIP Coaster Tour
Kennywood has a system called VIP Coaster Tour. If you don't mind getting assigned a row, you might want to get this if the park is packed. If you go on the First Responder Day, you should get this if you are visiting Kennywood on a vacation. If you can afford the extra $120 to get this, it is probably worth it.
