Phantom's Revenge vs. Steel Curtain at Kennywood

Kennywood has 2, very fun Hyper Coasters with Phantom's Revenge and Steel Curtain. These are my top 2 coasters in the park. These are the 2 tallest roller coasters in Pennsylvania. Today, I wanted to compare them to see which is better.

For this, I am going to look at what I find important in a Large Scale Extreme Coaster: Positives, Negatives, Restraints, and Smoothness. One more thing is that, since it will be important later, all ties will count as 1 point for each ride.

Part 1: Positives

This easily goes to Steel Curtain. Phantom is pretty forceful, but Steel Curtain is more intense. The ride pulls a combination of Positives and Laterals during the Cutback and the ending is intense overall. I'm giving this point to Steel Curtain, but it is pretty close.

Part 2: Negatives

For this point, it depends on what you look for. Phantom has a great airtime finale and has an airtime pop during the second drop. The second drop provides strong floater and the finale provides ejector. Steel Curtain has more hangtime and also has a few ejector pops. There is also a very sustained moment of Air and Hangtime at the turnaround, where it goes into a sustained, strong floater airtime hill, an intense and hangtime packed Dive Loop, and a Zero G Stall. This is a tough one, but I'm giving it to Phantom's Revenge since it has the better airtime and more intense airtime.

Part 3: Restraints

This is an easy point for Phantom's Revenge. The ride has some of my favorite restraints, which provide tons of room. They allow for amazing airtime and I think that this should be put on more coasters. Phantom gets this point.

Part 4: Smoothness

Kennywood does great maintenance on their Coasters, and they are all almost completely smooth. Phantom doesn't have any rattle because of good maintenance. Steel Curtain also has Good Maintenance and is Brand New. Both of these rides are glossy smooth. This is also a tie.

So, at this point, we have to find another thing to judge these rides on. I am going to add on Anticipation as something new because we need a tie breaker.

Final Scores:

At the end, Steel Curtain gets 2 points and Phantom's Revenge gets 3 points. Phantom does narrowly win this Coaster Battle. I personally do prefer Steel Curtain, but it is very close and I know that my rankings between the 2 changed often in 2019. While I personally don't agree with the ending of this coaster battle, it was just made for fun.
