Pittsburgh Amusement News: August and Early September 2021

I'd like to start a new series dedicated to Amusement Park News in Pittsburgh. This is the first article in this series. In the past month, we've gotten some really good news from Kennywood, so that is what this article is about.

First off, Kennywood is teasing the potential return of Kangaroo. Some people were sent a survey from the park. It asked a few general questions, but it had one notable question. Here's a tweet from the page Coaster Cuzzies on that question:

Depending on the results of that survey, this could mean that a Top 10 Ride at Kennywood could be brought back. If this happens, I will be very excited.

The next story is Kennywood's announcement of Phantom Fall Fest. This seems to be combining 3 very popular events from the past: Phantom Fright Nights, Happy Hauntings, and the Bites and Pints Festival.

From personal experience, I can say that Phantom Fright Nights was an amazing event. The park also had a kids event called Happy Hauntings that operated Family Rides plus Steel Curtain. Finally, the Bites and Pints festival was a big success this past June. The event brought in the largest crowds I've seen at the park (including the weekend right after Steel Curtain opened!)

While I didn't taste anything at the Bites and Pints Festival, I have heard a lot of good things about it. Phantom Fall Fest appears to include a Fall themed version of Bites and Pints.

If you combine all of that, you will likely get a fantastic event. I see this being an amazing event and I can't wait to go throughout weekends in October.

I also want to say that the event has started construction fast. It was only announced a week ago (as of writing this), but they have already closed the Penny Arcade and Raging Rapids for haunts there and have started putting together the haunt zones. It appears that the Escape Room Upcharge from Phantom Fright Nights is complete.

Overall, I can't wait for Phantom Fall Fest. The event looks like it takes everything amazing from Phantom Fright Nights and builds on that to make a perfect Halloween event. I could see this event winning more awards for the park.

The final news that I have is that Phantom's Revenge is finally getting the Refurbishment that it needs. I am writing this on Monday, September 6th, 2021. As of writing this, the park is holding a survey to determine what color a full track repaint will be. As of now, Purple is in the lead, staying around 75% of the vote. The support colors will remain the same.

With the repaint, I hope we can see some new effects added to the ride. I'd love to see a fog effect added when you dive under Thunderbolt. It would also be cool to have a wooden tunnel with fog and mirrors for that turn after the Double Down, though I find that unlikely.

For now, that is all the news I have for you today. Please tell me what you think. If you enjoyed it, please share this article with friends and family. Please consider reading more of my articles and enjoy the rest of your day.
