I love Kennywood's Coaster Lineup. It is a pretty strong lineup, but there are some major holes in their lineup. Today, I wanted to look at the biggest holes in their lineup and go over what I think could come next.
First off, there is an Inverted Coaster.
Kennywood is known to work with S&S Sansei Technologies. They haven't yet worked with Vekoma, but they have had plans in the past. At some point, there was some planning for a new Vekoma SLC to replace The Old Mill and Turnpike, I've heard. Those plans were scrapped. The Old Mill still stands, but Turnpike was replaced by Sky Rocket. In 2016, Vekoma was bought by S&S Sansei Technologies.
Because of all those facts, I think that Kennywood will get a Vekoma Inverted Coaster. I think that this might be a Suspended Thrill Coaster, but it also could be a Suspended Family Coaster.
Next, I think that they need a Modern Wooden Coaster. Kennywood is known for their wooden coasters, but they haven't added a new one in a long time. Their last new wooden coaster was Thunderbolt, and that was a conversion of a pre-existing wooden coaster done in 1968. They need a new, modern wooden coaster.
It isn't clear who would make this ride. Kennywood had plans for an RMC Topper Track, but that wasn't approved. We also can't go much off of their sister parks' additions. Bollywood Parks Dubai is getting a new Wooden Coaster this year, but we don't know if that is a GCI or Gravity Group, and we don't know if it is being bought by Dubai Parks and Resorts or Parques Reunidos. If I were to guess, I think it would be a Gravity Group. Parques Reunidos has bought 1 Gravity Group Coaster and 1 set of Gravity Group trains already, and they have never yet added a GCI.
I think that the wooden coaster would be 1 of 3 types. It could be a Family Coaster (similar to Roar-o-Saurus), a Shuttle Coaster (like Switchback), or a Compact Inverting Wooden Coaster (similar to Mine Blower). I would say it would probably be the Compact Inverting Wooden Coaster.
They also need another Compact Thrill Coaster. This is simple: they need an RMC Raptor. It is a very well loved model, so it would be a success at Kennywood.
There are 2 more holes that a new coaster can fill. The final coaster that I'm thinking of is a Shuttle Coaster with a Beyond Vertical Drop. Kennywood's parent company, Parques Reunidos, loves adding Gerstlauer coasters. In the past 10 years, of the 15 coasters that Parques Reunidos has added to the parks they operate alone, 6 of them were from Gerstlauer. There were also a couple Intamin coasters, 2 S&S Coasters, a Vekoma coaster, a Maurer coaster, and a few rides by Mack Rides. That means that Gerstlauer is the company they've worked with the most for new coasters. I believe that Mack was #2 and S&S was #3. That shows that a Gerstlauer may come soon.
If you want proof that this could happen, just look at one ride that already exists: Fury at Bobbejaanland. This is basically the thing I see coming, just I think the one at Kennywood would have a Beyond Vertical spike. I think it will be themed to Laser Loop, too, so that they can better market it.
That is all I wanted to talk about here. I hope you enjoyed this and I hope you will read more of my articles.
