I've made it clear over time that Kennywood is my home park. It is only a 15 minute drive or a 22 minute bus drive away, so it isn't that far. More recently, I started thinking about my other home parks. Today, I wanted to take a look at what parks may also be my home parks.
My main qualification is that it must be within a 3 hour drive. If it is slightly more, then I'd count it still.
For this, I won't count any Family Entertainment Centers that just have Kids rides. I also won't include any parks without a major ride.
The first park is Idlewild. This wouldn't make the list without Rollo Coaster or Wild Mouse, but because of those coasters, it makes the list. This is actually the only other traditional amusement park that I've been to, but I don't remember it. This park is known for being family friendly, but there are some rides there that I would really enjoy. The park does now have a reputation for not being well kept, but I think that the rides look very good. This is just over an hour away from my house.
Next, there is Lakemont Park. This park is family friendly. It is known for Leap the Dips and Skyliner. Leap the Dips is the world's Oldest Roller Coaster, opening in 1902. Skyliner is also known to be good, but it is known to be rough. There are also lots of family rides, there are go-carts, there is mini golf, and there is a water park. It appears to be pretty well kept, and I would love to spend a weekend here to do lots of what they have. This is about 2 hours from my house.
Next, there is Conneaut Lake Park. Now, we are starting to look in a different direction from my house. This amusement park is known for its classic attractions, but also being one of the shadiest parks ever. From what it looks like, rides look worn down. One of the main attractions for Devil's Den is literally a wall of gum. Blue Streak is known to be one of the roughest coasters in the world. I would still be proud to claim this as a home park, though, since it has many classic rides. This is about an hour and 45 minutes from my house.
Next, there is Waldameer. This park is known for Ravine Flyer 2, but also some classic rides. Comet looks like lots of fun, Ravine Flyer 2 looks amazing, and I would love to get out here. This is about 2 hours and 10 minutes from my house.
Finally, we have Cedar Point. Cedar Point is known to be one of the best amusement parks in the world, so I find myself pretty lucky to live only around 3 hours away. This has some of the world's best known and most iconic attractions, such as Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, Maverick, and Steel Vengeance. I also think that I'd love Rougarou, Valravn, Gatekeeper, Gemini, Blue Streak, and Magnum XL 200. Corkscrew and Iron Dragon also look quite underrated. Like I said before, I only live 3 hours away. This isn't a home park I could visit all the time, but maybe every few weeks in the future.
When it comes to Home Parks I could visit all the time (other than Kennywood), there are 2 main contenders: Idlewild and Conneaut Lake Park. Idlewild is closer, so I would be able to go there more often, but Conneaut Lake Park has a better looking ride lineup, so I might want to go there more often. My family knows a lot of other families, so it might be possible that I could visit Idlewild a lot more. I've been on trips where we have passed by Idlewild, and it really isn't that far.
In conclusion, my home parks are Kennywood, Idlewild, Lakemont Park, Conneaut Lake Park, Waldameer, and Cedar Point. I think I have a good collection of parks to visit.
