Pittsburgh's largest amusement park, despite being over 120 years old, still has some large holes in their lineup. With some new rides, they could become one of the best amusement parks in the world, so I wanted to go over what coasters they should get next. I also will say when I think they will get these coasters.
First off, I want to look at some very good fits. These coasters are likely to come soon, but they wouldn't really add much to the lineup.
The first coaster is an RMC Raptor.
This ride is a perfect fit for Kennywood. They love adding coasters with Ejector Airtime. They also need a compact coaster. They need a new major ride to make up for Kangaroo's removal, and this can fit on the former plot of Kangaroo and Paratrooper if some parts (like the dive loop and top of the lift) go over midways. This ride makes a lot of sense. I could see this be the first investment post-covid.
The next coaster is an Invert.
Inverted coasters are super popular, and I think that they would be a perfect fit here. There were plans to get a Vekoma SLC, but those plans were scrapped because nobody would be happy to see Turnpike and Old Mill go for a freaking SLC.
The fact that they work with Vekoma's parent company makes me think they may work with Vekoma to build a Suspended Thrill Coaster. This will probably be a cheap addition that will be popular. It could even interact with Phantom's Revenge.
The next coaster is a Modern Wooden Coaster
Some people will argue that Kennywood has enough wooden coasters, but I would completely disagree. There may already be 3 wooden coasters there, but they are all classic wooden coasters. The newest wooden coaster at Kennywood is Thunderbolt. That opened in 1968. Some of the best elements on that ride, though, were from 1924. They have no modern wooden coasters. I think that they should get a Gravity Group Extreme Compact Coaster that has an inversion. This coaster would be similar to Mine Blower at Fun Spot Kissimmee. I think that this coaster could go over some midways. Parts will probably be under Phantom's lift. There would be a vertical drop followed by a corkscrew then several airtime and lateral moments.
Along with that, I see a Gravity Group Family Coaster coming soon. I actually see the Gravity Group Family Coaster coming before the Invert or Thrill Coaster.
The final coaster type I want to discuss is any coaster with large Floater Airtime hills. I, personally, wouldn't be a big fan of it, but coasters like the B&M Hyper are often very popular. This coaster could also be at the entrance and could go through a tunnel. That will allow for a beautiful entrance. The entrance still looks pretty good right now, but the tunnel needs repainted, the ramps are now quite bare, and the buildings look pretty worn out. If the buildings and ramp are repainted and they have a B&M Hyper, the entrance will just look amazing.
There is no coaster about floater airtime at Kennywood. The only coaster at Kennywood with any floater airtime is Steel Curtain, but that is strong floater airtime that is borderline ejector. The ride more focuses on inversions, too. A B&M Hyper would really fill the hole of floater airtime.
In conclusion, I think that Kennywood should add an RMC Raptor, Vekoma Suspended Thrill Coaster, 2 Gravity Group Wooden Coasters, and a B&M Hyper. These can really round out their coaster lineup and will be great fits here.
