After a lot of controversial decisions at Kennywood, I feel like they really need something to bring in the crowds. After that, I want to talk about what I think that Kennywood really needs.
Part 1: What They Need
With the rides that Kennywood has chosen to remove, it is very clear what they are lacking: attractions that the whole family will enjoy. Log Jammer, Turnpike, Paratrooper, and Kangaroo were all popular, well loved rides that the whole family could enjoy.
What Kennywood really needs is an area that the whole family can enjoy. There would be rides that kids, parents, and thrill seekers could all enjoy.
Part 2: Potential Ride Lineup
My idea is for something called Camp Kenny. This will be a similar idea to Camp Snoopy at Cedar Fair parks, but also completely different.
Camp Kenny would include a new Roller Coaster that would be designed to entertain as many people as possible. This would be a family friendly coaster with some thrilling parts.
The major coaster would probably be either a Vekoma Suspended Family Coaster, a Mack Family Spinning Coaster, a Vekoma Family Boomerang, and/or a Gravity Group Family Coaster.
This new area would also include some family friendly flat rides. These could include a few of the following rides:
-Zamperla Nebulaz
-Zamperla WindStarZ
-Zamperla Magic Bikes
-Zamperla Wave Blaster
-Larson Tilt-a-Whirl
-Larson Flying Scooters
All of those rides would be a great fit at the park.
If I were to pick 3 flat rides I mentioned, I would probably pick the Flying Scooters, the WindStarZ, and the Tilt-a-Whirl.
If I were to pick 2 of the coasters I listed, I would pick the Gravity Group Family Coaster and the Mack Rides Family Spinning Coaster. These coasters are often considered good rides for families and thrill seekers. These would also be great fits in the ride lineup at Kennywood.
Part 3: Location in the Park
Now, let's look at where this would be. To make space for this, these kiddieland rides would be removed:
-Red Baron
-Dizzy Dynamo
-Elephant Parade
-Steel City Choppers
Furthermore, Crazy Trolley and (possibly) S.S. Kenny would be rethemed to match the Camp Kenny area, but they wouldn't be moved anywhere.
To make some room, some of the Pavillions in the Kiddieland Picnic Groves would be moved. They would be moved to places like the Jackrabbit Picnic Groves. Some of them may even be put over new rides, and one may even be put back over Whip.
The moving of the Kiddieland Pavilions will also allow for a potential expansion of Steelers Country. This would allow for new rides, shops, and restaurants. There could even be new shops under the new coasters, right after the exits.
These new additions would help make up for the removal of Kangaroo and Paratrooper.
If the demand is high enough and the rides are still owned by Palace Entertainment, Kangaroo and Paratrooper may see a return here, as well, but I wouldn't necessarily count on it happening.
There could be some theming throughout this new area. There could be shops designed to look like Cabins, shops that sell S'mores and Hot Dogs, and things like that. There could also, in some places, be an occasional campfire.
Part 4: Ride Names
For this, I think that it would be good to give some ride name ideas. Here are names I came up with for all of the rides I mentioned and what rides these would these would be.
-Butterfly (Vekoma Suspended Family Coaster)
-Campfire Coaster (Mack Rides Family Spinning Coaster)
-Kenny's Crazy Train (Vekoma Family Boomerang)
-Parker's Arrow Express (Gravity Group Family Coaster)
-Telescope (Zamperla Nebulaz)
-Wind Storm (Zamperla WindStarZ)
-Mountain Bike (Zamperla Magic Bikes)
-Kenny's Kangaroo Hop (Zamperla Wave Blaster)
-Kenny's Spinner (Larson Tilt-a-Whirl)
-Flying Aces (Larson Flying Scooters)
Part 5: How Realistic Is This?
I think that a new area would be very realistic. They need more rides the whole family can enjoy, since they haven't gotten one since 1984 with Wave Swinger. Since then, they have only gotten thrill rides and kids rides. The closest thing to a family ride added since then was Pittsburg Plunge, but that is more than a family ride, I would say. The new area could attract a lot of people, and I think that it would be a massive success.
Kennywood has no modern family coasters, so it makes sense that they would finally add modern family coasters. Families bring in high profits for the park, since they will likely buy a lot of stuff. The new area makes a lot of sense. I wanted to make the rides as realistic as possible.
In Conclusion, I think that Kennywood really needs a new Family Friendly area that everyone can enjoy. There will be a few family flat rides and some coasters. This can draw in crowds, and it will be very profitable. I hope this happens and I hope they can be successful, in the end.
