Kennywood has been adding many new rides and attractions over the years. In the last 10 years, they added 2 new coasters. Kennywood, unfortunately, has barely any room for expansion. Today, I wanted to find out what Kennywood's next coasters will be and where they may be put.
First off is an RMC Raptor to replace Kangaroo and Paratrooper. I went more into this in the last article, but they could fit a Raptor clone here. Some parts would go over the midway, but it can fit. This would be a Prototype clone.
Next is a Gravity Group coaster. This would be a family coaster, a shuttle coaster, or a thrill coaster (like Mine Blower). This would be placed between the Straight Section and Lift on Phantom's Revenge. That plot is about 385 feet by 170 feet.
Roar-o-Saurus at Story Land, which is one of Kennywood's Sister Parks, has dimensions of 270 Feet by 120 feet. This could fit.
Switchback at ZDT's Amusement Park has a plot of 190 feet by 330 feet. This could fit if they got a custom layout.
Mine Blower at Fun Spot Kissimmee has a plot of 400 feet by 110 feet. This could fit if they expanded the plot to a place past the midway.
Next is something I see happening in the near future. I think that they will remove Raging Rapids and get a few new coasters there. I see 2 coasters coming there.
The first one would be Laser Loop. Laser Loop was relocated to La Feria before the accident on Quimera, and it is still up for sale for $490,000. If you factor in Relocation, modifications to the launch system, new trains, some new track, and the new station, I think it would cost about $1,000,000. Below is an image of the plot it could be on.
The other new coaster I would see coming here would be a Mack Rides Powersplash. This would be the model with a turntable. They would be removing an unreliable water ride, and they already removed Log Jammer in 2017, so they would need a new water ride. Their newest water ride is Pittsburg Plunge (unless you include the Flynn ride in Thomas Town), and Pittsburg Plunge was added in the 90s. This new Mack Powersplash will probably be quite popular and will be much higher capacity than Raging Rapids. There is the plot it could be on below.
Next, I want to talk about a hypothetical situation that could happen. Back in 2006, Kennywood was trying to get permits for a massive new expansion. They bought 50 acres of land. They planned on building a Hotel, Indoor Water Park, New Storage Warehouse, and several new rides, including a major new main attraction, which would probably be a new coaster. They tried getting approval, but there were reportedly some land disputes. Then, the park was sold to Parques Reunidos, so the entire plan was scrapped. They reused an old train maintenance building as a storage building.
Some people were saying that there are height limits in Duquesne, which is where the new land is. The current land that the park occupies is in West Mifflin, but the park is right next to Duquesne. I tried digging through local ordinances, but I couldn't find anything about height limits. I think that they may want to add this new expansion. I think that they would invest in a B&M Hyper if they were to do this expansion.
Now, I want to look at the total price if they did this. For the RMC Raptor, I will estimate that it would cost $5,000,000. This is just an estimate, though, because none of the parks have published the price of the rides. RMC was selling one for $100,000, so I am marking this up by a lot for my estimate. I would say that they would get the Gravity Group Family Coaster with steel supports. This would cost about $6,000,000. For Laser Loop, it would cost around $1,000,000 for the total cost of it. For the Mack Powersplash, I would say it would be about $11,000,000, since that it a little more than the cost of Pulsar. The B&M Hyper would be around the size of Mako, which cost $20,000,000. If we combined all of the prices of these coasters, it would be $43,000,000. This means that the average cost of the new coasters is $8,600,000.
