Hey, wanted to give a quick opening paragraph before you read the article. I started writing this article the day after the news came out about this new coaster. Since then, there have been a lot of updates. I took a break for a month, but in that time, we got confirmation that this would be an iBox Thrill Coaster. It also looks massive, kinda like a larger version of Goliath at Great America from the images of the dive loop that we see. The color scheme is also identical to the colors of the Atlanta Braves, a prediction I had in my head that I didn't mention in the article.
In Late May of 2021, it was announced that Fun Spot America will be adding a new RMC Roller Coaster to their Atlanta park. There has been a lot of speculation on what this new RMC could be, so I want to go over my predictions.
First, I want to talk about some of the hints they gave.
There are so many hints that they give in their article that may even be worth an entire other article. There is also a ton of information that I've heard nobody talk about. Let's look at the information.
First off, they keep describing it as "Huge". To me, this is enough to eliminate a Family Coaster. While the article describes it being a great ride for families to enjoy, this doesn't necessarily mean a family coaster, though. RMC trains are able to accommodate for people as small as 48 inches in height. We can see rides with that height requirement with kids riding all the time. I see small kids in line all the time at Phantom's Revenge, and that has forces close to the strength of Intimidator 305 (Phantom pulls 5 Gs. Different sources say i305 is somewhere between 4.5 and 5.1 Gs).
They have also described this as the largest investment in Fun Spot America's history. As of right now, the largest single investment in Fun Spot America History is Mine Blower. To me, this is enough to eliminate a Raptor, as we know that Stunt Pilot literally was sold for $400,000.
This now leaves one model: the Thrilling Hybrid. While we don't know how much a smaller scale ground up RMC Hybrid would cost, we know some things in particular. We know that RMC Coasters are getting cheaper (at least in the US). We also know that Goliath at Six Flags Great America cost $10 Million. We know for sure that Iron Gwazi cost $9 Million. This makes me think that this coaster will be a large scale coaster.
It is heavily implied that this ride will be using the iBox Track. The article talks about the history of the iBox track, but it never even mentions Topper Track, Raptor Track, or Trex Track.
Something that a lot of people seem to be ignoring is that this is potentially having a sports theme. As of right now, there is 1 major Sports Themed Roller Coaster in the US. That ride is Steel Curtain at Kennywood. This ride is a hyper. There have also been 2 temporary rethemes of coasters (that I know of) to honor Sports Teams. Those were Patriot at Worlds of Fun and Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point. All three of these major coasters are massive. Patriot is the smallest, but it is around 150 feet tall. It just makes sense that large sports teams will work with massive coasters. The Top Thrill Cubster retheme of Top Thrill Dragster was a major success for Cedar Point. Steel Curtain is an even larger success for Kennywood. I think that they want a massive ride like Steel Curtain at Fun Spot, so it makes sense that they'd go with something this large.
So, in conclusion, I think that this will be a large scale RMC Hybrid. Based on the theme, it seems a lot like it will be a Hyper Hybrid or close to that. Even if it isn't massive, I still think that this ride will be very good and I can't wait to see what the ride looks like.
